VMier has studied painting and sculpture in Vienna and Munich and
graduated in 2015. In her work, the contraction of the most diverse
strands of content and form plays an essential role, understanding
artistic work as one that can not and does not want to be
places where she is located and the people with whom she is in
exchange with determine content and form of her work. She
works parallely on drawings, research materials, her own texts,
references and layers, which are often assembled in the formats of
installations or artist's books—sometimes on the border to applied
arts. VMier is currently working on a research complex in which she
examines the relationship between contemporary agriculture and
utopia from a feminist perspective
and uncouples the knowledge and insights gained from these in
various artistic works.
In addition to her solo practice, Maria VMier is active in various collaborative/curatorial projects. Since 2013 she has been a publisher for artist books within Hammann von Mier Verlag (together with Stefanie Hammann) and since 2017 she has been running the project space Ruine München together with colleagues. Since 2019 she has also been a committee member of Lothringer13_Florida, an artist-run space of the City of Munich. Maria VMier lives and works in Munich.
